Go karting is classified as an extreme sport, so safety is, obviously, paramount. Chances of a serious accident are incredibly low, but to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience, there are things you must wear and items of clothing that are unsuitable.
For those who have never been go karting, here are answers to some of the questions we are frequently asked.
What do Absolutely Karting provide?
We will provide you with a safety helmet and jumpsuit. You will also need to wear a balaclava under the helmet and gloves with a grip, which we can supply at a small cost – you are welcome to take these home once your session has ended.
If you are a seasoned go karter and have your own race wear, you are free to wear it; however, our marshalls will check to make sure it is suitable.
All our jumpsuits and helmets are thoroughly sanitised between use.
Do I wear clothes under my go karting jumpsuit?
Yes, definitely. Choose something that isn’t restrictive and will be comfortable when you’re sat in the kart. Our venues are indoors, so be aware, it can get quite warm when you’re on the track. A t-shirt with jeans or joggers is ideal.
What about on my feet?
The majority of people will wear trainers. If you turn up and expect to be allowed on the track wearing heels, sliders, flip-flops, open toed shoes, or sandals, you’ll be disappointed.
Can we wear fancy dress when go karting?
We fully understand that go karting is an extremely fun activity for birthdays, and hen and stag parties, and fancy dress may be involved in the celebration. However, it can be dangerous to race in, so we would ask you to change out of it before getting into your jumpsuit.
We do have a special pink go karting jumpsuit that can be worn by a stag or hen, or someone celebrating their birthday – speak to us when you book.
Do I have to remove jewellery?
Items like necklaces, dangly earrings or bracelets should be removed so they don’t get caught on anything. Rings are fine as your gloves will cover these. If in doubt, take it off for the duration of your time on the track.
The same goes for accessories, such as scarves and sashes.
What do I do with my hair?
If you have long hair, tie it back. Hair shouldn’t cover your face once your helmet is on.
